The Nuclear Crisis

Iran and its nuclear ambitions are in the headlines, constantly reminding us that Iran is at the centre of a global crisis that could lead to a devastating war.

The Bible tells us to pray ‘for kings and all those in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.’ (1 Tim 2:1-2) So today we want to focus our prayers on Iran’s political leaders. We want to pray in faith, knowing that God is in control and that there is no panic in heaven over this issue.

As we read through the Bible, we see that God at key times spoke to leaders of nations and peoples. God showed Himself in dreams to the rulers. In one case, the King saw handwriting on the wall.

So let us go to the Lord in prayer and intercession for Iran and its leaders:

  • Let us pray that the Lord will reveal Himself to Iranian authorities and draw them to the knowledge of the Truth. Pray for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamanei, who has the final say in this nuclear crisis. Also pray for the President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Minister of Defence Mostafa Mohammad-Najar, the Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, the Parliament and the entire leadership.
  • Pray that all determined efforts to develop and use nuclear technology for any non-peaceful means, which will inevitably provoke military action against Iran, will stop. Pray that the spirit of hatred and destruction will cease, that war will be avoided, and that peace will reign in the region.
  • Pray for the leaders of the international community to have wisdom in this crisis.
  • Pray that the Lord will intervene in Iran, that any scheme or plan that is contrary to the will of God will not stand.

Thank you so much for praying

Lyrics to the song:

May the shadow of God’s grace,
and his hand of blessing be upon you
and remain with you forever and ever.
